This is a small excerpt from the upcoming book “Loki: Trickster and Transformer” through Moon Books, which will be available May of 2020. This is a small cleansing and empowering ceremony that can be used to charge a cup or bowl of water (alcohol, tea, coffee, or whatever you desire) with life-force and blessings:
If you wish to use the bowl as a tool of personal cleansing, light your Loki candle and fill the bowl with water. Perform your fire breathing, and with each exhale imagine that you are gathering and breathing Loki’s flames into the water, charging it until it is glowing with bright, golden light. To finish blessing the water, hold your hands above it, and use this washing charm30 that I adopted from the Galdrabók (an Icelandic grimoire dated to around the 16th century) and altered for this purpose:
I wash myself in the dew and dales in Loki’s bright brilliance. I wash myself from the ill-will of any enemies or magic spells. I wash myself from all obstacles, missteps, and wrath. May the world bless me with good friends and benefactors. May the land bless me with good food and provisions. May everything be good for me that I need to do, say, or think. This I ask from you, Loki and Sigyn, so that everyone who sees me on this day may turn to me with loving eyes. May all misfortune, bad luck, wickedness and wiles be turned away from me. May all those who want to betray me in words, deeds, or sorcery vanish and be turned away from me. Hear my prayer my lord and lady. I believe in, and trust you for all good things. Loki, spider, please keep the threads of my fate untangled. Hail.
After you have blessed the water, you can either sprinkle it on yourself, drink it, or add it to a shower or ritual bath.
